FAQs
It depends entirely on what the nonstick surface is made of. Most conventional nonstick relies on coatings made with PFAS, including PTFE, which is why the category gets questioned. Nonstick made a different way doesn't carry the same concern: our non-toxic ceramic nonstick pans release food using a cured silica-based surface, and our titanium nonstick pans release food using its patented NoCo nonstick technology. Our nonstick cookware has been made without PFAS since day one.
Look for one of two constructions. Ceramic nonstick cookware, where a silica-based coating is cured onto an aluminum or stainless steel body, gives you the closest feel to conventional nonstick. Titanium cookware, where the pattern in the metal creates the release, gives you nonstick behavior with none of the usual care restrictions. The Ceramic Nonstick Always Pan covers the first, and the Titanium Always Pan Pro covers the second.
Yes. Our ceramic nonstick coating, Thermakind™, is mainly comprised of a sand derivative, water, and alcohol, and it's made without PFAS (including PTFEs and PFOAs), lead and cadmium.
A well-made ceramic nonstick pan lasts up to three years of regular cooking, and how you treat it decides where in that range you land. Low to medium heat, no metal utensils, no abrasive sponges, and hand washing all extend the lifespan of your ceramic nonstick pan.
If you'd rather not think about any of that, titanium nonstick pans are the better buy, because the nonstick effect comes from the pressed pattern in metal in our NoCo nonstick technology itself rather than a layer that can wear.
Although not all nonstick pans on the market can, all Our Place nonstick pans are oven-safe. Our ceramic nonstick pans are oven-safe up to 450°F and our titanium pans are oven-safe up to 1000°F (750ºF for gold). Always check the handle and any lid separately, since those often have a lower rating than the pan body.
Our Titanium pans are dishwasher safe. Ceramic nonstick pans are hand wash only: dishwasher detergent is abrasive enough to dull the coating over time, and a soft sponge with warm water does the job in seconds anyway.
